you may be green, but is your home?

the idea of living life in a more green manner has become more mainstream in recent years. more people are recycling, driving fuel efficient vehicles and doing what they can do to lessen their carbon footprint. (if you're interested in knowing what your carbon footprint is and how to offset it check out the website carbonfootprint.com and use the calculator)

the building industry is also taking steps to make things more environmentally friendly. we get the magazine Green Builder and while flipping through it this month we found something that we want to share. it is a tool that can benefit builders as well as home owners.

visit the website nahbgreen.org and click on the tab labeled 'green scoring tool'. you'll have to create a user name and password, but it is free and worth it. from there you can go through your home and answer questions to determine the to extent to which your home is green. the site will score your home and say whether it is bronze, silver or gold. we're using it on our homes and you should too!

As one of the creators of the Green Scoring Tool, I just want to thank you for sharing how much you like using the Tool. Our team worked very hard to create a useful online tool, and it's good hear that someone say they find it worth the effort to register. We just updated the Green Scoring Tool to include scoring to the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard, as well as the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines. I hope you will find it as useful for future projects.
